Turning Trash into Treasure

Photocatalysis is like photosynthesis, but for chemicals instead of plants! It uses light energy to power chemical reactions. Photocatalysts are materials that absorb light and provide excited electrons to drive reactions. One example is using sunshine to break down and recycle waste plastics and biomass into useful chemicals and clean hydrogen fuel. I research ways to develop and scale up photocatalytic systems that can transform waste into value-added products. It’s an innovative approach that takes inspiration from nature to drive sustainable circular solutions using nothing but the power of the sun! Photocatalysis has exciting potential for waste valorization and solar energy storage to build a circular economy.
